Formula 1’s 2026 technical regulations introduce smaller, lighter, and more agile cars designed to improve racing.
The updated cars feature a significantly overhauled 1.6-litre V6 turbo hybrid power unit running on 100% sustainable fuel, alongside revolutionary active aerodynamics and a massive boost in electrical power.
Dimensions & Weight
- Wheelbase: Reduced by 200mm to 3400mm.Overall Width: Cut by 100mm to 1900mm.
- Floor Width: Reduced by 150mm.Minimum Weight: 768 kg (30kg lighter than previous cars).
Power Unit & Hybrid System
- Total Output: Over 1,000 HP (combining combustion and electric power).
- Electric Motor (MGU-K): Tripled in power to 350kW, providing roughly a 50/50 split with the internal combustion engine.
- MGU-H: Completely removed to reduce complexity.
- Fuel: 100% advanced sustainable fuel (derived from non-food sources, municipal waste, or carbon capture).
Aerodynamics
- Active Aero: Introduces movable front and rear wings to alter drag and downforce levels, effectively replacing the traditional Drag Reduction System (DRS).
- Downforce & Drag: Overall downforce is reduced by 30%, with drag cut by 55% to achieve much higher straight-line speeds.
- Bodywork: Front wing is narrowed by 100mm, and the beam wing (the small horizontal plane underneath the main rear wing) is banned.TiresWheel Rim: 18-inch (retained from the previous generation).
- Tire Width: Front tires are 25mm narrower and rears are 30mm narrower.
